Within the Metropolitan Police Department's '0' Section, a unit dedicated to investigating closed cases, Rei—a highly trained detective—searches for memories erased during training while simultaneously probing a human trafficking case in which a young woman is the victim. When a classified killer virus falls into the hands of rising terrorists, Public Safety dispatches Sarah Kodama, who specializes in molecular biology and computers, to collaborate with Rei; however, Rei refuses. Curious about the enigmatic Rei, Sarah begins compiling information about her and visits Rei's former boss, Asami.
