APC Links 2023 Loss to Former Administration Policies
The Kaduna state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has attributed President Bola Tinubu’s failure to win the state in the 2023 presidential election to the leadership style of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
State APC publicity secretary Mohamed Sani Haruna stated during a media parley in Kaduna that the 2023 election outcome served as a referendum on El-Rufai’s administration. Haruna accused the previous government of alienating residents through specific policies, including the demolition of houses and markets, the dismissal of thousands of workers, and a disregard for indigenous communities.
Haruna described the political environment under El-Rufai as divisive, contrasting it with the approach taken by the current administration led by Governor Uba Sani. He asserted that Sani’s leadership has adopted an inclusive strategy by respecting the different ethnic and religious groups within the state.
Current Administration Pledges Massive Support for 2027
Expressing confidence in the current political climate, Haruna stated that Kaduna would deliver massive support for Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. He claimed that Governor Uba Sani has united Kaduna, which he described as a "miniature Nigeria," and pledged that the governor would deliver two million votes for Tinubu in the upcoming presidential election.
Haruna highlighted the APC’s current political dominance in the state as evidence of this renewed support. He noted that the party now controls all elected positions across Kaduna’s 255 wards, 23 local government areas, 16 federal constituencies, and three senatorial districts.
Tinubu Campaign Flag-off Scheduled for October
Haruna announced that President Tinubu’s presidential campaign flag-off is scheduled to take place in Kaduna on October 24, 2026. He argued that this scheduling demonstrates Tinubu’s solidarity with the North.
The Kaduna APC leadership has positioned the upcoming campaign event as a key moment for consolidating support in the region, following their assessment of the factors that influenced the 2023 election results.
