Davis and Siddiqi Advance to General Election
State Rep. Lauren Davis is seeking reelection to the Position 2 House seat in Washington's 32nd District, facing Imraan Siddiqi, a nonprofit director and first-time state candidate.
The two Democrats advanced to the general election after competing against only each other in the August primary. Voters in the district will also decide two other legislative races in November.
Six Democrats originally vied for three seats in the 32nd District, which includes parts of Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, Lynnwood, Shoreline and a small portion of northern Seattle.
Davis, 40, has served in the state Legislature since 2019 and lives in Shoreline. She has served on the House Community Safety Committee her entire time in the Legislature.
Legislative Record and Policy Priorities
Davis said she is running for reelection to continue her work reforming the state’s behavioral health system. Since the beginning of her term, Davis has authored legislation that expands access to peer services, naloxone, recovery housing and medications for opioid use disorder.
Davis helped secure funding for the Lynnwood Crisis Care Center and authored a bill that updated the state’s substance use disorder treatment system. She cited public safety as a priority, addressing gun violence and sex trafficking on Aurora Avenue in North Seattle and youth violence in the Lynnwood area.
Davis plans to focus on bills creating a legal pathway for juvenile trafficking victims to be taken into protective custody for a longer period of time and dismissing charges for juveniles in possession of a firearm if they complete an early intervention program funded by increasing the state’s concealed pistol license fee.
"I will continue the work on those twin issues — very intertwined issues — of behavioral health and public safety, which this 32nd District has its fair share of those challenges," Davis said.
Funding and Endorsements
As of Monday, Davis had raised $230,224 for her campaign according to state filings and carried an additional $39,489 over from her last campaign. She is endorsed by Gov. Bob Ferguson, U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen, Salomon, the Washington State Labor Council, Lynnwood Police Officers Guild, and the Washington Education Association, among others.
Siddiqi’s Platform on Immigration
Siddiqi, 47, is the executive director of the Washington chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and lives in Mountlake Terrace. Siddiqi said he decided to run for state Legislature in response to increased immigration enforcement.
If elected, Siddiqi would support a bill that would ban the state from hiring ICE officers to any state agency and create pathways to take ICE agents to civil and criminal court so people can get recourse for property damages.
Other Races and Election Logistics
Voters will also decide two other races in the 32nd District in November. Senate incumbent Jesse Salomon will face fellow Democrat Cindy Ryu, who currently holds the Position 1 House seat. Former Federal Trade Commission Attorney Danica Noble and Shoreline City Council member Keith Scully, both Democrats, will face off for the open Position 1 seat after a crowded primary.
The county mailed out ballots on Oct. 9, with election day set for Nov. 3.
