FEC Records Link Bush Donation to Talarico’s Super PAC
Barbara Bush donated $2,500 to a political action committee supporting Democrat James Talarico in the Texas U.S. Senate race, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) records.
The Austin American-Statesman reported Friday that FEC website information listed Bush as the source of the contribution. The recipient was identified as Lone Star Rising PAC, with the donation date recorded as September 23, 2026.
Barbara Bush is the daughter of former President George W. Bush, a Republican. Her contribution to a super PAC backing a Democratic candidate marks a financial support for Talarico, who is seeking to unseat Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton in the November midterm elections.
Campaign Finance Expert Notes Visibility of PAC Contributions
Andrew Cates, a political attorney and campaign finance expert, provided context on the nature of the donation relative to other types of political spending. He noted that prominent political families often employ lawyers to advise them on ensuring contributions remain anonymous.
Cates explained to Houston Public Media that Bush’s contribution went to a super PAC rather than a 501(c)(4) organization. Unlike 501(c)(4)s, which can allow for complete anonymity regarding donor identities, super PACs are required to disclose their contributors publicly through FEC filings.
This disclosure requirement means the source of the $2,500 is a matter of public record, distinguishing it from donations made to social welfare organizations that do not have to reveal their backers.
Lone Star Rising PAC Finances and Talarico’s Campaign
Lone Star Rising PAC has been a significant financial backer for Talarico’s Senate bid. Bloomberg cited Federal Election Commission filings showing that Democrat megadonor Reid Hoffman contributed $10 million to the same super PAC.
Earlier reporting in July indicated that Hoffman had poured more than $10 million into the super PAC boosting the Texas Democrat Senate candidate. The PAC has spent millions of dollars backing Talarico while simultaneously funding advertisements attacking his Republican opponent, Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Race Dynamics and Polling
The contest between Talarico and Paxton is shaping up as a closely watched race in Texas. Recent polling showed Paxton narrowly leading Talarico as Texans prepare to vote in the November midterms.
The stakes of the election were highlighted by the Paxton campaign website, which stated that the outcome will determine whether Texas remains a conservative stronghold or becomes another state controlled by the radical left.
Barbara Bush’s Political History and Allegations
Breitbart News previously reported in October 2024 that Bush campaigned for Kamala Harris in Pennsylvania before her loss to Donald Trump. This prior activity underscores her engagement in national Democratic politics beyond the current Texas race.
Additionally, Breitbart News has reported that Bush has advocated for the killing of unborn babies via abortion and claims she does not identify with either political party. These assertions provide further context regarding her stated political independence despite her financial support for specific candidates.
