Electoral Roll Verification Flags Former Chief Minister

The Delhi Election Commission has issued Special Intensive Revision (SIR) notices to former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and four members of his family as part of ongoing electoral roll verification efforts. The notices were served during the current revision process, which aims to update voter records across the capital.

According to reports from Delhi Herald, the notices were issued under the "Unmapped with Last SIR" category. This classification applies to voters whose current details in the electoral roll cannot be matched with previous SIR records. Officials stated that individuals flagged under this category must submit documents to establish their eligibility for inclusion in the updated rolls.

The specific notices targeted five family members located in Part-51 (KG Marg) of Assembly Constituency 40 (New Delhi). The individuals named in the verification flags include Kejriwal, his wife Sunita Kejriwal, their son Pulkit Kejriwal, who is 25 years old, and his parents, Gobind Ram Kejriwal and Gita Devi.

Scale of Verification and Political Reaction

Commission officials clarified that the scope of this verification exercise extends far beyond individual political figures. Approximately 33 lakh electors in Delhi have been flagged for lacking mapping with the previous SIR or for having logical discrepancies in their records. The commission noted that hearings and document verification processes are currently underway for these flagged entries.

The issuance of notices to Kejriwal’s family drew an immediate response from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The party reacted sharply to the development, questioning how the names of a three-time Delhi Chief Minister and his immediate family could be missing from the voter list.

AAP representatives suggested that the action was politically motivated. The party highlighted the discrepancy as an anomaly given Kejriwal’s long tenure in public office and asked for explanations regarding the administrative oversight.

Verification of Other Officials and Final Roll Timeline

While the verification process has flagged several high-profile individuals, the commission has also validated entries for others. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was initially flagged for discrepancies in her records within Assembly Constituency 14 (Shalimar Bagh). However, the Commission later verified her details and validated her entry.

Her name will be included in the final electoral roll, which is scheduled for publication on November 4, 2026. The commission indicated that once document verification and hearings are complete for all flagged electors, including those under the "Unmapped with Last SIR" category, their status will be finalized in this upcoming publication.
