African Trade Figures Rise According to New Report
The African Export-Import Bank (Afrexim Bank) released the "2026 African Trade Report" titled "Leveraging Geopolitics for Trade and Industrialisation in Global Africa." The report states that Africa's merchandise trade expanded by 6.1 percent during 2025 to reach approximately $1.5 trillion.
According to Afrexim Bank data, intra-African trade rose by 5.5 percent over the same period to about $213.8 billion.
Economic Performance Metrics
The report noted that Africa's economic performance strengthened during the reporting period. Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth accelerated from 3.4 percent in 2024 to 4.5 percent in 2025, surpassing global growth levels.
"Africa's real GDP growth accelerated from 3.4 per cent in 2024 to 4.5 per cent in 2025, outpacing global growth and reaffirming the strength and adaptability of the continent," according to a statement attributed to Afrexim Bank.
Aggregate inflation moderated sharply from 21.6 percent to 13.1 percent during the period covered by the report, as stated in the document released by the bank.
