Trump Approval Ratings Drop Amid Fuel Price Surge
A Reuters/Ipsos poll indicates that President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 31 percent, with disapproval rising to 66 percent. This marks a significant decline from his 41 percent approval rating at the time of his inauguration, according to reported data.
The drop in popularity coincides with reports that fuel prices have reached Biden-era pandemic highs. These increases are attributed to Trump’s war in Iran, a conflict that began despite his previous pledges not to initiate "Forever Wars." October is projected to record the most expensive month for U.S. petrol prices ever, following similar records set in the two preceding months.
Legislative Control Hangs in Balance
The political landscape is shifting rapidly as the verdict on Donald Trump’s second term will be determined in less than two weeks. The Cook Political Report stated that Republicans’ path to keeping control of the House has all but evaporated.
Simultaneously, Race to the WH calculated a 72 per cent chance the Democrats could take the Senate, citing its correct predictions for the last three elections. These projections underscore the volatility of the current political environment.
Hostility Reshapes Campaign Tactics
LATIKA M BOURKE: Political hostility is rising, reshaping how democracies function and campaign, driven by Trump, MAGA, Hanson, and social media outrage. This trend is evident in the aggressive tactics employed by candidates seeking office.
Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy released an ad featuring the mother of Democratic rival Amy Acton, calling her a liar. The ad targeted Acton’s family history; Amy Acton and her brother were removed from their mother’s custody at age 12 after stepfather Cledith Arthur was charged with raping her. He fled in 1978 and died in 2004.
Amy Acton called the platforming of her mother “despicable” and “exploitative.” Ramaswamy claimed ownership of the ad and stated he would spend $US4 million to air it. Vice President JD Vance said Ramaswamy had the audacity to run a commercial calling Amy Acton a liar.
President Trump cheered Ramaswamy on and told him to “ride with it.” Despite claims that he is not on the ballot, Trump has rallied MAGA supporters through rallies in swing states for key candidates, further fueling the charged atmosphere of the election cycle.
