Direct Engagement With Voters
Representative Jason E. Thompson has outlined a campaign approach focused on direct interaction with constituents rather than partisan confrontation during the current election cycle.
Thompson stated that he has hosted and participated in more than a dozen meetings and knocked on doors throughout his district. He noted that he has spent "countless hours talking with constituents" to understand their perspectives.
The representative confirmed that two additional town halls and multiple cottage meetings are scheduled between now and election day. These events are intended to facilitate further dialogue with the public as the campaign progresses.
Policy Priorities for Cache Valley
Thompson identified several specific priorities for his tenure if re-elected. He stated that his campaign focuses on supporting teachers while ensuring parents remain an essential part of their children's education.
He also listed keeping government accountable and accessible as a core goal. Thompson emphasized protecting the character of Cache Valley as it grows and ensuring that decisions are made closer to the people affected by them.
The representative said he wants his campaign to address making life more affordable for families, fostering strong communities, and maintaining responsible growth.
Approach to Disagreement
Thompson addressed the nature of political discourse, stating that while politics has "no shortage of disagreement," this is an important part of representative government. He argued that disagreement does not have to become contempt.
To illustrate this point, Thompson said he intentionally meets with people who disagree with him. He noted that while these conversations are not always easy, they often reveal more in common than politics might suggest.
He stated that he has spoken with parents, teachers, local leaders, business owners, students, and families about what is working and what is not in their communities.
Campaign Conduct
Thompson specified how he intends to conduct the remainder of the campaign. He said he is not interested in attacking his opponent or questioning his motives during the next several weeks of the race.
Instead, Thompson said he believes government exists to serve people, not the other way around. He promised to listen, explain his decisions, and continue meeting with both supporters and critics.
