Embassy Post Emphasizes Future Partnership Strength
The US Embassy in India on Wednesday highlighted remarks made by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the future of ties between the two nations. In a post on X, the embassy shared an excerpt from an exclusive interview with Rubio and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor conducted with India Today.
The embassy’s post focused on Rubio’s description of the bilateral partnership, quoting him as saying it is "one of the strongest relationships in the world." The post included links to the full interview, directing readers to the network’s coverage of the discussion on the future of U.S.-India ties. The embassy expressed confidence that the relationship would become one of the strongest in the world over the next five years.
Rubio’s Assessment of Bilateral Relations
During the interview released Wednesday, Rubio was asked to rate the India-US relationship on a scale of one to 10. He declined to provide a numerical rating but described the partnership as "very important" and stated it is "as strong as it’s ever been." He added that he believes in five years, the relationship will be viewed as one of the strongest in the world.
Rubio highlighted India's rapid progress in areas relevant to US national security and interest, calling the partnership "logical." He characterized India as a country nearing a population of 1.5 billion and the US as the planet's largest economy, noting their distinct prospect to contribute to the history of the 21st century through collaboration.
Trade Negotiations and Strategic Alignment
Speaking to Network18, Rubio revealed that the India-US trade deal is "incredibly close." He anticipated its finalization in a matter of weeks, not months. While he noted he is not personally negotiating the deal, he stated he has been closely monitoring discussions handled by the trade representative.
At the Freedom 250 reception in Mumbai on October 20, Rubio stated that while Washington and New Delhi would not see eye to eye on every matter, their alignment on core issues defining national interests is "extraordinary." This comment was made during his engagements in Mumbai as part of efforts to strengthen the strategic partnership.
Rubio concluded his visit to India on October 21 after engagements in Mumbai. The visit included efforts to strengthen the strategic partnership, advance bilateral trade agreement negotiations, and expand energy cooperation between the two nations.
