Powder Keg
Drafted by the United Nations, The Driver is dispatched to extract a wounded war photographer, Harvey Jacobs, from hostile territory. During the escape, Jacobs recounts the horrors he witnessed behind the lens and confesses his regret for being unable to aid war victims. He explains why he became a photographer, recalling how his mother taught him to see, and entrusts the Driver with the film for a New York Times story and with his dog tags to pass to his mother. At the border, a guard raises a weapon as Jacobs begins to photograph, seemingly intent on courting death. The Driver drives through a hail of gunfire toward the border, only to discover Jacobs slain by a bullet that pierces the seat. Back in America, the Driver visits Jacobs’ mother to deliver the news of Jacobs’ Pulitzer Prize and to hand over the dog tags, only to learn that she is blind.
