The Moon
Presented as fiction, Naomi Kawase offers a self-portrait that doubles as a re-crossing of her earlier films. The ancient city of Nara, Japan’s first capital and Kawase’s birthplace and residence, unfurls as a reverie where past, present, and future converge. Its labyrinthine streets cradle the "Haré" of festive days and ceremonial rites alongside the "Ké" of everyday life.
