Synergia Foundation Outlines New Economic Frontier

BENGALURU, Karnataka [India], October 16 — As artificial intelligence makes it increasingly easy to generate new ideas alongside convincing fake voices, images, documents, and research data, the world faces a strategic challenge in distinguishing what is real from what is synthesized.

Synergia Foundation, an independent, non-partisan strategic affairs think tank, argues that this challenge is giving rise to a new "Verification Economy." In this emerging framework, the ability to validate ideas and authenticate information, data, and research will become critical to economic competitiveness, scientific progress, and national security.

Tobby Simon, Founder and President of Synergia Foundation, stated that protecting trust in information, institutions, and transactions is a serious challenge as AI makes creating convincing fakes easier. He noted that the concern extends beyond false information to the fundamental protection of people’s trust in the information they receive.

Shifting Value Toward Physical Verification

The rapid expansion of generative AI is lowering the cost and effort required to produce synthetic content at scale, creating an imbalance where generation is easier while establishing authenticity remains complex. This shift is altering value propositions across various industries.

For businesses, value is shifting toward laboratories, testing facilities, and regulatory compliance. According to the foundation, AI-generated designs are worthless until they are physically tested and proven.

Verification is expected to become an increasingly important capability across pharmaceuticals, advanced materials, synthetic biology, scientific research, and national security as AI-generated content becomes more sophisticated.

Proposed Priorities for a Verification Ecosystem

Synergia has proposed three priorities for building this Verification Economy. The first is rewarding validation through new legal categories, such as validation patents. The second involves making authenticity traceable via digital watermarking and provenance records. The third priority is building openness into the ecosystem by encouraging the publication of AI-driven research rather than locking it behind trade secrets.

Simon asserted that governments, businesses, and technology platforms must collaborate to make verification a basic part of the digital world to protect trust, business confidence, and national security.

Intellectual Property Challenges

The rise of generative AI is creating challenges for intellectual property laws built on the assumption that only humans invent. Uncertainty over patenting AI-driven discoveries is pushing companies toward trade secrets, a trend Synergia argues should be countered by promoting openness in research publication.
