No te engañes corazón (released in English as Don't Fool Yourself Dear) stands as Cantinflas's inaugural feature-length film after ascending to prominence in the carpa circuit (folk theater). It also marks one of the earliest screen appearances for Sara García and Carlos Orellana, and their first on-screen collaboration. Don Boni (Orellana) is diagnosed with a deadly disease and resolves to spend his remaining days performing acts of goodness. He departs from his wife and dedicates himself to aiding others. After a bout of drinking, he awakens to a winning lottery ticket and discovers that the doctor who diagnosed him has been sent to prison for fraud.
