WWE SummerSlam 1988
SummerSlam 1988 marked the inaugural edition of the SummerSlam pay-per-view, produced by the World Wrestling Federation and staged at Madison Square Garden in New York on August 29, 1988. Created to bolster WWF's competition with World Championship Wrestling, it stood among the first four annual pay-per-views produced by the company. The night's opening marquee match for the Intercontinental Championship featured The Ultimate Warrior challenging the reigning champion The Honky Tonk Man; Warrior captured the title in about thirty seconds, ending the longest Intercontinental Championship reign. The climax pitted The Mega Powers — Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage — against their longtime foes The Mega Bucks — Ted DiBiase and Andre the Giant. Hogan and Savage prevailed after Miss Elizabeth distracted the special guest referee by lifting her skirt to reveal a bikini bottom.
